CADA Drama Teacher Genevieve Kenneally has won Best Play and the People’s Choice Award at this year’s Short + Sweet playwriting festival.
Her play, called ‘X’, was performed as one of the festival’s ‘Top 20’ last week at the Courtyard Studio.
'X’ tells the story of a young woman who converses with the letter ‘X’, begging him to appear as warning to her every time she is about to take a wrong turn in life and love. A comic and soulful piece, ‘X’ taps into the anxieties associated with modern relationships and the boundaries we need to make wise choices.
“It was such a thrill to see my work performed on stage by such brilliant actors, and wonderful to know that others appreciated my writing,” Genevieve said.
‘
Audience members were able to nominate their favourite work in a secret ballot, and Genevieve’s received the most votes. The play was directed by Hannah McCann and was performed by Dave Evans and Elizabeth McCrae.
But not only that - CADA student Elaine Noon also won Best Actress in the Short+Sweet festival. Well done Elaine, a well-deserved accolade! - and congratulations to all those CADA associates involved in the Festival.
