Our Mission
Our mission at Canberra Academy of Dramatic Art is to build a generation of performers through a sense of self and story. Self, because we believe in building up, rather than tearing down; we believe in building confidence and skills which contribute to the whole person. Story, because all performers are storytellers - and by telling stories, they become culture-makers and culture-changers.
Our History
Canberra Academy of Dramatic Art (CADA) proudly provides innovative training in drama and communication skills for children aged 4 and up, right through to vocational actor training for adults to Advanced Diploma level. CADA was established in 2009 by local actor-director James Scott and his wife, playwright Elizabeth Scott, and now supports over 265 students on a weekly basis. In addition to our regular student programs we also perform commissioned works and operate corporate training programs.
At Canberra Academy of Dramatic Art we are committed to the development of local talent for stage and screen. We also believe strongly in the value of participation in dramatic art for pleasure and personal growth. Thus, our programs, while rigorous, also emphasise community and togetherness, and are offered in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere. Our motto is "Imagination. Discovery. Performance". In 2011, CADA won a Canberra BusinessPoint Award in the 'Creative & Design Section', in recognition of its initiative and innovation in the Canberra community. We followed up our achievements in 2012, winning the same award in the same section a second time. In 2012, CADA moved into a new premises and established its actors' studio at 3/16 Iluka St, Narrabundah, on the southside of Canberra, but centrally located. Our Facilities
CADA has a central office, performing arts library, three fully equipped studios (one with a sprung dance floor) at 1/9 Lithgow St, Fyshwick ACT, for our professional actor training programs. Classes for children are held in suburban community halls and venues around Canberra, so that they are easily accessible to parents.
Our Patron
CADA's Patron is Mr William Zappa. Find out more about him here.
